Canada wins bronze in 2023 World Cup, beats USA

Canada defeated the United States 127-118 in the third-place game of the 2023 FIBA World Cup on Sunday in Pasay City, the Philippines.

Nickeil Alexander-Walker scored 21 and Dillon Brooks added 20 off the bench for Canada, which won its first medal at the FIBA World Cup since 2006.

Roy Hibbert led the way for the United States with 22 points.

Canada went into the fourth quarter with an 18-point lead, but the United States cut it to four with 2:30 remaining thanks to a three-pointer from Derrick Favors and a steal and dunk from Marcus Smart.

However, Canada hit six free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.

The bronze medal is a major accomplishment for Canada, which has never won a medal at the FIBA World Cup.
